about me
Tristan Cohen is a 23 year old filmmaker and videographer currently based out of Brooklyn, New York. He has worked as a producer, writer, director, cinematographer, gaffer, sound mixer, and editor on a myriad of projects, though he is most passionate about writing, directing, editing, and especially cinematography. He grew up on Long Island an hour and a half away from New York City, and spent parts of the winters driving to and from the mountains of Vermont. At 16, he and his family moved to Nosara, Costa Rica until he was 21 and moved back to New York.
Moving from the high-paced regime of New York down to the jungles and beaches of Costa Rica, Tristan discovered his passion for filmmaking. Ever since he can remember, Tristan has always felt the most alive when grounded in nature. Over the past 22 years, he has consistently questioned himself and the human condition, inevitably leading him to find filmmaking as an outlet for expression and creative endeavors.
Fascinated by the infinite number of stories to tell and the infinite number of ways to tell them, Tristan constantly explores new realms of filmmaking at any given chance. In all of Tristan's work, he strives to portray reality in the rawest form, constantly exploring the intricacies of the human experience, finding the links between harmony and nature, all while dissecting the darker, more abstract realms of the mind. Mental health is at the forefront of much of his narrative work.
Tristan is a perfectionist at heart and strives to be 1 percent better every single day. The passion burns infinitely within, pushing him to bring his absolute best to every single project, no matter how big or small.
In December of 2025, Tristan and his father co-founded the Nosara International Film Festival, a yearly festival held in Nosara, Costa Rica, taking pride in showcasing the highest quality of independent cinema year after year.
Tristan is currently finishing post-production for his second short film "Fish Tank", as well as for a short documentary that tells the story of an 18 year old South African professional surfer, "Surprise", in addition to another short documentary recently shot in Kenya for the non-profit Beyond Fistula. Tristan is also in the process of writing his third short film and debut feature film.
